Nitrogen Fertilization Reduces Nitrogen Fixation Activity of Diverse Diazotrophs in Switchgrass Roots

چکیده

The use of synthetic nitrogen fertilizers to grow biofuel crops adds the economic and environmental costs biomass production. Biological fixation provides an alternative, eco-friendly source for leguminous plants some nonlegumes. With objective characterizing eventually harnessing nitrogen-fixing bacteria in switchgrass roots, we assayed nitrogenase activity surveyed nifH-expressing roots grown under agricultural conditions. Plants were cultivated at two separate locations Oklahoma different soil types 5 years with three fertilizer regimes (0, 90, 180 kg N ha ?1 year ). Nitrogenase associated cleaned was found be highest no lowest or not detectable level fertilizer. A total 454 abundant nifH operational taxonomic units (OTUs) identified roots. Diversity analysis active showed that most common orders Burkholderiales (171 OTUs), Desulfovibrionales (55 Rhizobiales (44 OTUs). OTUs belonging Azonexus, Pseudacidovorax, Desulfovibrio, Dechloromonas, Bradyrhizobium enriched low Analysis significant distinct microbial communities field locations, as well a unique community unfertilized Frederick exhibited rates fixation. Efficiency of nitrogen fertilization in spring wheat

An assessment of the nitrogen fertilization efficiency should not only include quantitativeand qualitative yield changes, but also an analysis of formation some indicators such as: Nharvest index (NHI), N use efficiency (NUE), N utilization efficiency (NUtE), N agronomicefficiency (NAE), N physiological efficiency (NPE) and N apparent recovery fraction (NRF).The objective of the study was the e...

Nitrogen Fixation

Plant growth is directly dependent upon an adequate supply of fixed nitrogen. Water and fixed nitrogen are the most common limiting factors for plant growth. There is an abundance of nitrogen in the atmosphere, but it is in the form of the relatively inert gas, N2, and this must be converted chemically or biologically into a more active form before plants can utilize it. Chemical fixation most c...

Nitrogen fixation in ruminants.

The amount of nitrogen gas (N2) available for microbial protein synthesis via nitrogen fixation in the rumen was estimated. Measurements were made of nitrogen fixation by ruminal ingesta from goats fed low protein rations for a prolonged period of time, and by ingesta from sheep fed high protein rations. Nitrogen fixation by rumen microorganisms incubated for 30 or 180 min in vitro was measured...

The fate of nitrogen fixed by diazotrophs in the ocean

While we now know that N2 fixation is a significant source of new nitrogen (N) in the marine environment, little is known about the fate of this N (and associated C), despite the importance of diazotrophs to global carbon and nutrient cycles. Specifically, does N fixed during N2 fixation fuel autotrophic or heterotrophic growth and thus facilitate carbon (C) export from the euphotic zone, or do...

Cyanobacterial Nitrogen Fixation (CYANOFIX)

The European Science Foundation acts as a catalyst for the development of science by bringing together leading scientists and funding agencies to debate, plan and implement pan-European initiatives. This ESF programme builds on the longstanding European research tradition in cyanobacterial nitrogen fixation. It is, however, the first coordinated European interdisciplinary programme in the field...
